A Guide how to de fogging your Scuba Mask or Paintball mask, using Matches instead of a lighter. Matches are much better in removing the Silicon from the mask and reduce the fog. More invasive methode then Toothpaste, just for tempered glass.
Otherwise buy a good new Mask:

I used a mini torch pen to burn mine. I did it couple of times.. I hope it works. Ill try tomorrow.. I think your proof of the lens not fogging up anymore after the match burn is because the glass was still warm/hot so when you exhaled on it no fog can build up because of the glass heat.. If it were to cool back down, expect a fogging issue 🙁

For anyone else having mask fogging problem like I did, I spit to it the night before I dive and let it dry. The next day when I go into the water I GENTLY rinse the lens with water until it clears up from the spit (not to harsh cleaning because it wont work) and it works pretty well. If you don't feel comfortable burning the lens you can always try this.
Just use scouring powder…..works great
This works great if you don't wash the mask after burning. If you wash it the effect is gone
I have a question no one is talking about. Why the heck do we only brun the inside. Why would they not protect the outside as well?

Flame works. When getting a new mask, I disassemble the lens and start with the lighter and then do the toothpaste process. It is easier to clean the whole lens at the edges where there is most silicon, if you disassemble the mask. Having said that, I still use anti fog for extra insurance. BUT the most important thing to remember is not producing the steam from your face in the first place. Therefor BEFORE you get in the water dip your face in the water FOR A MINUTE to cool it off and close the steam producing pores. This also kick starts your apnea instinct and your brain starts slowing down your heart (even stops arrhythmias).

Many masks brakes by doing so.
Use toothpast to clean then att first.
Than always spitt in the mask before youse.
Shill don your fase before fiting mask.

The "soot" that you mention is from carbon particles forming due to incomplete combustion. A lighter produces a cleaner and more efficient burn. That is why there is less soot. I don't think the soot has anything to do with burning the silicon off. It's just a by-product of the match flame. The heat from the flame burns the silicon off. Everything else you mention is spot on. Thanks.
Do you have Mr. Clean Magic Eraser where you live? You clean the inside of the glass with that and rinse very well. Just before diving a dot of dish washing liquid spread on the inside glass and just a quick rinse.
