After preparing the mask for the first time (I use toothpaste), then every dive I use baby shampoo, and have no fog. Recently I didn’t have baby shampoo and it was fogged most of the dive. Next dive used baby shampoo again, and no fog. Interesting seeing the different tips.
Very helpful
I click like before I watch now as I KNOW it will be an excellent video!
A nice thick hawk of spit works.I dont need to buy anything
Use Bon Ami 1886 rather than Comet.
It's used by NASA to clean the windows on the ISS.
If you use toothpaste you have to make sure you do it properly. You need to use non whitening kids toothpaste and cake the mask in it. Then leave it for an hour or two ensuring the toothpaste dries on. Simply wash it afterwards and the coating is removed and your mask smells minty fresh!
Thx and yes.The Mr.was out of respect.old school values looking at 53 this July
Thx for replying back Mr.Pierce, wasn't expecting that one at all.
I've used toothpaste religiously but never seen comet, will have to do a little early spring cleaning
Dang man comet is good for anything
Why don't the factories remove this "release coating"? You'd think it would be just part of the process.
Nice
Any anti-fog tips that might apply differently to masks with expensive corrective lenses in them? I'd hate to scratch up a prescription mask.
for years i have been spitting in my masks and no prob…cheap and easy
After years trying different stuff, I found out nothing works better than toothpaste, and smells nice too.
hi alec, there is a product for cars rainx antifog.. i actually use it on the bathroom mirrors and it lasts about 6 months. very cost effective, never tried it on goggles but will the next time im out.. wonder manufacturs of goggles dont solve this problem during manufacture process
WRONG ! buy a large bottle of Johnson's Baby Shampoo – rub around a few drops of the shampoo on the inside and out side of the glass and the entire inside of the mask to help clean the face seal … give it a quick rinse and the lens won't fog and the mask will seal on your face really well. Ive been doing this for 40 years and never ever had a problem with fogging. and it keeps your mask CLEAN !
The EXPENSIVE Anti Fog is Rain Ex in a tiny bottle and your not to get it any where near your EYES !
In the past I have used Soft Scrub or toothpaste with good results. However, I just purchased a Scubaparo dive mask with a coating on the exterior and they warned me not to use anything other than dishwashing liquid. They said the coating could be damaged by using anything abrasive. Also, for anti-fog I, like some of the other people commenting, use 50/50 baby shampoo and water. Works great every time and no more tears! Thanks for the great tips on your videos.
I find spitting into the mask and rubbing it around then a quick rinse does the trick for me. No fog for the entire dive.
We use baby shampoo instead of the anti-fog drops, works just as well and a fraction of the price.
I usually just let a little water stay in my mask, then just shake my head if the mask fogs up. But it seems the more I dive with a mask, the less it fogs.
I love older people … Precise, Concise, To the point.
Experience is Golden.
Ajax? I think you mean Francis.
I use toothpaste for new mask to clean them and after a few dives (do it in the hotel) to remove the oil, for the defog I use sea gold OR Baby Shampoos any kind, they works just fine, if the mask is clean from oil you won't have fog, no need to spend too much on defog product, its necessary to clean the mask after few dive, and I never do mask clearing, thanks for the great video Alec
Is scrubbing with the kitchen scub only once enough. Other videos say to do it 5 or 7 times? Will Softscrub work as well?
I used leaves of a certain plants to defog my mask.
I've also heard people using lighters, what are your thoughts on this? As long as you use it carefully obviously.
2:40 you said it has ammonia in it. Does that mean you can urinate on it? Hahahaha……
I have tried many many anti fogs before , best one is Akona.. its really really good stuff no need for all that VIM or toothpast crap… the secret to using anti fog is put a little drop spread it around then rinse before dive DO NOT PUT FINGER On glass just rinse it good before dive
THanks for those tips !! as always well said and clear .. will definitely try that .. and would it be needed to scrub it before each dive or just when new or once i mean and then the defog before each dive ? Thanks
by the way thank you very much for all the tips best diving tech vedios ever
hello Alec
i have bought a new mares mask my brother used a lighter to burn the inner coat is it right to do that ??
Hi, Alec! I love this set of videos! It's been very helpful. I'm putting this comment on this video because my question is most related to this one.
I've started planning out getting to a Rescue Diver certification, which was a perfect excuse to buy the rest of my equipment. After watching these videos, I pulled out my mask and realized it could use a good cleaning. But the mask I got when I started has polycarbonate lenses, and I really don't think Comet is a good thing for those! Do you have any suggestions about cleaning masks like that? Or would you recommend throwing it out and getting a better mask with glass lenses? I do think it's a decent mask; it's an H2Odyssey MS-4 Delta.
In addition to that, I have a question that might make for a good tech-tip as well: my mask came with magenta color-correcting lenses. I'd love to learn more about those and what benefit they might have! But I don't see many options for masks with color correction. Is there a reason for that, or am I just looking in the wrong place?
Thanks, and thank you so much for all the work you and Kevin do for getting these videos to us!
Alec, thank you for all of your helpful videos. I am looking at buying an atomic aquatic mask but there is a $50 option for an anti reflective coating. in your experience have you found the ARC worth the extra cost? thanks in advance. -Jake
I was taught to use a little spit lol,
I must say I was never to to clean my new mask like you demonstrated. Certainly would have made thing easier when I was training.
i only use tooth paste, best with granulate or those small things in the paste… works everytime 😀
