SILFRA – Drysuit Dive Of Your Life
Silfra is a great place for diving. Not only have you got fantastic visibility, but its one of the only spots where you can see the tectonic plates underwater. Now before you decide to jump in, bear in mind the waters cold, it comes from a glacier. So you will need to wear a drysuit. This keeps you warm and protected from the elements. In this video, watch David Ramsay from Magmadive showcase the beauty of Silfra, whilst teaching a diver how to drysuit dive for the first time.
Silfra in Þingvellir National Park, a stunning freshwater rift where volcanic lava erupted around 12,000 years ago. Formed from the Mid Atlantic Ridge, a 10,000 mile tear along the Atlantic Ocean seafloor.
The ridge is a line of underwater volcanoes, and it’s here where new oceanic crust begins new life. It stretches from the South Atlantic all the way to Iceland in the North, where it rises above sea level. From the air, the Mid Atlantic ridge where Silfra lies is an awesome sight.
This dramatic scar in the landscape marks the boundary between the North American crustal plate on the left side, and the European plate on the right. The gap between ocean plates is filling in at a rate of 1 inch every year, part of the restless movement of the earth’s crust that is reshaping our world.

Is it possible to scuba dive there in Silfra with just AOW but no drysuit certificate?
Next year i will be there and would like to dive with you.
Would you mind me asking, what is the the model/version of your aqua lung dry suit?
Would like to try drysuit diving on Iceland with you guys – David seems a very nice instructor. Is that possible?
What's the water temperature?
4:35 thanks me later
Hey David, have you ever thought of doing a video showing people what the Askja volcano is like to dive? It seems like quite the trip.
bcd diver nooooooo….. aint gonna watch this ….. shame !!
sorry for my English
But i use google translator 🙂
I have a question:
Have you used another diving system?
On the margins
You prepare the text beforehand
Is it natural for you 🙂
Very cool and interesting dive show in the cold waters
I would love to dive in this area
maybe someday 🙂
What did you use to film underwater? Just a GoPro in waterproof housing?
loving the video! especially the sights on the road! And I do wanna dive here! you're an expert!! next time i go to Iceland, Magmadive on my list!
love from Indonesia
Love your videos!!! Really wish you have subscribers because you put a lot of effort in your videos :/
You sure know how to sell it well David.
There seems to be a recurring theme to your videos:
1. David is an easy going guy that is knowledgeable. You will get along with him.
2. Everything runs smoothly and you will have a great time at Magmadive.
Got me sold. When I come to Iceland next year, I'm diving with Magmadive, not the other well known outfit on the Island.
Need to come back soon and even better that you now carry the kit 🙂
